Presentation of YESS 10
Following the YESS 10 cancellation due the Coronavirus pandemic, thanks to the involvement of the IPC members and of the experts, and to the experience of the YERME representants in the IPC on the YERME webinars, the YESS 10 participants will be offered two types of online activities:
- Every day, during the week 21-25 April 2020, a web-plenary at the time 13:30-15:00 (CET time) will take place. We hope this will be suitable for a large number of countries. You may find the program in the menu "Program".
- For each TWG, the expert will provide interaction in modalities depending on the expert’s availability (e.g. face to face interaction on appointment; virtual meeting).
CANCELLATION OF YESS-10
The Programme Committee and the Organising Committee of YESS-10 have commonly decided to cancel YESS-10. As mentioned in the previous announcement (and in the email sent to all participants), we are continuously working on ways to offer to all participants the chance to interact with the experts of all groups. We will inform you as soon as we agree on the optimal way to achieve this.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT (11/03/2020)
The last weeks we have been observing the outbreak of Coronavirus and its devastating effects on the lives of thousands of people all over the world. During the last week two of the experts expressed their inability to travel to Rhodes due to their countries' restrictions; moreover, we think that this is just the beginning. We are aware that you have invested lots of time in preparing your papers and your travel; we have also invested lots of effort for the organisation of this event. However, given the current situation, YESS-10 cannot take place at the particular dates. We are now considering alternative ways of interacting with the experts, or the possibility of postponing the summer school for a later date (in that case, we will inform you as soon as possible, so that you could change accordingly your tickets). In case of cancellation all participants who have paid their conference fee will receive their money back. Please note though, that this process might take a few weeks to be completed.
The ERME Board, YERME and the Local Organisers are happy to invite PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, and master students in mathematics education and others entering mathematics education research to take part in the Tenth YERME Summer School (YESS-10). In line with the ERME Manifesto, the aims of the Summer School are:
- to let people from different countries meet and establish a friendly and cooperative style of work in the field of mathematics education research;
- to let people compare and integrate their preparation in the field of mathematics education research in a peer discussion climate with the help of highly qualified experts from various research areas;
- to let people present their research ideas, theoretical thoughts, methodological approaches or problems, and preliminary research results, in order to get suggestions (from other participants and experts) about possible developments, different perspectives, etc. and open the way to possible connections with nearby research projects and co-operation with researchers in other countries.
PERIOD: The school begins on April 21st morning and finishes on April 26th evening, 2020 (five and a half days of work plus one intermediate half-day for excursion).
PLACE: The summer school takes place on the University of the Aegean, in Rhodes and is organized by the Laboratory of Learning Technology and Educational Engineering (LTEE).
ACCOMMODATION AND CONFERENCE FEES: An all-inclusive 7 days full-board accommodation (from April 20th, afternoon, to April 27th, morning) is offered. The conference fee will be 500€. This fee will include accommodation with breakfast, all meals and coffee/tea as well as an excursion. There will be a possibility for some scholarships for participants from European and non-European countries who demonstrate the need for such support (depending on ERME contribution and other contributions). In principle, it is expected that participants will first seek support from funding organisations in their own country or their countries of study.
