The main idea of the project<\/h2>\n

The project \u201cComputational Thinking at School\u201d aims to integrate computational thinking in the secondary educational practice<\/b> and train teachers to uptake its pedagogical potential<\/b><\/p>\n

The high impact of Computer Science in science, economy and society,<\/span> has increased the dialogue about the role of Computational Thinking in education.<\/p>\n

Wing in 2006 recognized Computational Thinking as a fundamental competency that all literate citizens<\/span> should develop through compulsory education, to complement the three other core skills, that is, reading, writing and mathematics.<\/p>\n

The integration of Computer Science and Computational Thinking in general education is an imperative issue<\/b> that should attract the interest of the education community and educational policy makers.<\/p>\n

The project addresses the Computational Thinking integration by professional development of the teachers in the interdisciplinary approach of Computer Science through all the school subjects.<\/span><\/p>\n

The role of teachers is crucial in understanding of Computational Thinking as this is depicted in learning activities<\/b> they design so training in learning design of interdisciplinary Computational Thinking scenarios will be a main focus point in the project<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Partners<\/h2>\n

The project is initiated by Directorate of Secondary Education in the Dodecanese<\/span>, public authority for education at regional level. Laboratory of Learning Technology and Educational Engineering (LTEE)<\/span> from the University of Aegean designs and implements the pedagogical part of the project.<\/p>\n

There are six public Secondary schools<\/span> joining the training course and will pilot learning scenarios in their classes:
\n\u2022\u00a0<\/span>Three schools<\/b> from different islands in Greece (Rodos and Kos)<\/b>
\n\u2022\u00a0<\/span>One school<\/b> from Tenerife island in Spain<\/b>
\n\u2022\u00a0<\/span>One school<\/b> from Lisbon in Portugal<\/b>
\n\u2022\u00a0<\/span>One school<\/b> from Bergen in Norway<\/b><\/p>\n

The partner schools have prior cooperation in other Erasmus projects<\/b> and have focused on Computational literacy and Computer Enhanced Learning<\/b> among their scope of interest.<\/p>\n

It is expected that through the three year project<\/b> about 80 teachers (15 per school)<\/b> will be trained and actively involved.<\/p>\n

The Training<\/h2>\n

The project will organize short term staff training events<\/b> in each partner organization.<\/p>\n

The aim of the events is to study the key dimensions of Computational Thinking<\/span> and to produce, evaluated and commented, learning scenarios collections<\/span> for all dimensions in the secondary level of education.<\/p>\n

The aims of the project<\/h2>\n

The project has the following main aims<\/p>\n

\nTo develop and implement an online training course using the pedagogical model of online learning community<\/span> for teachers at partner schools on the scope and conceptualization of Computational Thinking at classroom level through learning design.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n


\nTo develop of a “CT Integration in Education Guide with sample learning scenarios”<\/span> for teachers of secondary education level as the main product of the previous aims (1 & 2). This guide will be a collaboratively produced document which will present systematically the expertise that the project will produce in order to be exploitable by other teachers and members of the educational community.<\/div>\n

\nTo offer updated the website<\/span> you are currently visiting as a mean of dissemination of the CompuT project results.<\/div>\n
