The main idea
The project “Computational Thinking at School” aims to integrate computational thinking in the secondary educational practice and train teachers to uptake its pedagogical potential
The high impact of Computer Science in science, economy and society, has increased the dialogue about the role of Computational Thinking in education.
Wing in 2006 recognized Computational Thinking as a fundamental competency that all literate citizens should develop through compulsory education, to complement the three other core skills, that is, reading, writing and mathematics.
The integration of Computer Science and Computational Thinking in general education is an imperative issue that should attract the interest of the education community and educational policy makers.
The project addresses the Computational Thinking integration by professional development of the teachers in the interdisciplinary approach of Computer Science through all the school subjects.
The role of teachers is crucial in understanding of Computational Thinking as this is depicted in learning activities they design so training in learning design of interdisciplinary Computational Thinking scenarios will be a main focus point in the project.
The Partners
The project is initiated by Directorate of Secondary Education in the Dodecanese, public authority for education at regional level. Laboratory of Learning Technology and Educational Engineering (LTEE) from the University of Aegean designs and implements the pedagogical part of the project.

There are six public Secondary schools joining the training course and will pilot learning scenarios in their classes:
• Three schools from different islands in Greece (Rodos and Kos)
• One school from Tenerife island in Spain
• One school from Lisbon in Portugal
• One school from Bergen in Norway
The partner schools have prior cooperation in other Erasmus projects and have focused on Computational literacy and Computer Enhanced Learning among their scope of interest.
It is expected that through the three year project about 80 teachers (15 per school) will be trained and actively involved.

The Training
The project will organize short term staff training events in each partner organization.
The aim of the events is to study the key dimensions of Computational Thinking and to produce, evaluated and commented, learning scenarios collections for all dimensions in the secondary level of education.

The aims
The project has the following main aims
To develop and implement an online training course using the pedagogical model of online learning community for teachers at partner schools on the scope and conceptualization of Computational Thinking at classroom level through learning design.
To develop collections of learning scenarios related computational thinking. The learning scenarios along with their implementation evaluations and the assessment of their impact on learners in order to define the best practices.
To develop of a “CT Integration in Education Guide” for teachers of secondary education level as the main product of the previous aims (1 & 2). This guide will be a collaboratively produced document which will present systematically the expertise that the project will produce in order to be exploitable by other teachers and members of the educational community.

To optionally offer a MOOC for the professional development of more teachers in the future according to the results of the project
